Overview

Have you ever seen a Sales Pipeline Project stop responding to Deal updates after merging two Deals in Hubspot?  That's because of a nuance to the way Hubspot handles merges - we'll walk you through what happened and what to do about it.

Why does this happen?

Let's say you start with Deal A and Deal B in Hubspot.  These are mapped to corresponding Projects in Parallax.  If you merge them, you assume you're keeping Deal A, and pulling in aspects of Deal B, right?  Nope.  Instead, you're deleting both Deal A and Deal B, and creating Deal C out of parts of each.  You can see this by the change in URL:

Each of those Deals started out with Parallax Projects (Project A and Project B) and when you perform that merge, Parallax doesn't make any changes.  You don't know it, but Deal A stays mapped to Project A, Deal B stays mapped to Project B).  So, when you make changes to Deal C, there's no corresponding Parallax Project to receive them.

Why can't I see this in Parallax?

You'll probably notice on the Integrations tab for Project A and B that they both show the URL for Project C (making it *look* like they've both been remapped) - this is because the Deal shown on the Integrations Tab is nothing more than a hotlink to Hubspot.  While Parallax doesn't know about the merge, Hubspot does - so it redirects hotlinks from both Deal A and Deal B to Deal C no matter where the hotlink is.

How can I fix this?

Fixing this means pulling in Deal C to create Project C, and discarding both Projects A and B.  You can do this by:

  1. Performing a Hubspot sync from Settings > Integrations.
  2. Visiting the Sales Pipeline to confirm Project C has been created.
  3. Visiting Projects A and/or B and using the "Duplicate to Another Project" option to clone any Offerings you need to Project C.
  4. Exclude Projects A and B using the option on the Sales Pipeline.

You will end up with just one Parallax Project mapped to one Hubspot Deal, containing all the parts you needed from the original Projects.

Why can't I fix this by merging Projects in Parallax?

Merging Projects A and B in Parallax would do no good, because neither Project is mapped to a valid Hubspot Project anymore.

Once you've run a Hubspot sync to pull in Deal C to create Project C, doing merges in Parallax is not recommended because this adds the two defunct Deals (Deal A and Deal B) to Project C.  It's fine for a Projects to be mapped to a single Deal to have a defunct Hubspot ID, but when you add defunct Hubspot Deals to other Parallax Projects through a merge, Parallax has no way of representing this (since the merged in Deals have no jurisdiction over the Project).  This can result in the Integrations Tab of the Project not understanding which Hubspot Deals to display.
