Overview
Merging Projects in Parallax can be an easy way to pull in change orders or other changes to the scope of the Project as it grows. However, sometimes you may run into roadblocks when merging - in this article we'll talk about what to check for and how to resolve them.
There are five basic questions to ask
Are the Projects at the right Status?
Merging Projects in Parallax is based around moving the CRM Deals attached from one Project to another. After all, you can clone an Offering from one Project to another without Merging. For this reason, Status is important.
To pull one Project into another, the "winner" Project (the one that's being kept)* needs to be Active. This Project is driving
It's not hard to figure out that Pre-Sale Projects can't pull in either Pre-Sale or Active Projects
- Pre-Sale pulling in Pre-Sale - No.
- Pre-Sale pulling in Active - No.
- Active pulling in Pre-Sale - Yes.
- Active pulling in Active - yes.
Do the Projects have the same Client?
Please note: The Client Name isn't what's important, it's the Client ID's.
It's not only possible to have multiple Clients with identical names (spelling, capitalization, the works), it's downright common. Each time a new Client is created in a CRM, it's created in Parallax too, and CRMs don't generally prevent you from duplicating Client Names.
How can you know if you have duplicate clients/customer names? You can check the customer/client ID from Parallax by hovering over the customer name where the ID will appear.
Compare the ID from the projects or deals you are reviewing and if a match then the merge should occur but if the ID's do not match then, you have most likely a customer in your CRM listed more than one time.
Do both Projects have an Offering with the same Name?
When two separate Projects exist in Parallax, whether they be a Project and a change order, or two like-projects combining, invariably there can be overlap in the Names used for the Offerings in those Projects. As long as those Projects remain separate, that's no problem!
However, when merging Projects, the "winning" Project will inherit Offerings from the other - and all Offerings within a Project have to have unique names. This means if you try to merge two Projects with Offerings under identical names, nothing will happen.
This is an easy fix, just update the Offering name(s) on one or both Project so there are no duplicates, then merge away!
Note: It is not possible to merge projects if one of the projects is not associated with a CRM deal.
OOPS!
In the event you accidently merge record 1 into record 2 but you meant to merge record 2 into record 1, simply rename the projects and create a new snapshot to update.
